Raccoon Attic Damage & Restoration

Raccoons are among the most destructive animals that can get into your attic. A single raccoon family left unchecked for one breeding season can cause $3,000–$8,000+ in damage.

Types of Raccoon Attic Damage

Insulation Destruction

Raccoons flatten blown insulation as they walk through it, reducing its R-value dramatically. They use loose insulation as nesting material, compacting and contaminating it with urine, feces, and food debris. In most cases, all attic insulation must be completely removed and replaced.

Biological Contamination

Raccoons establish communal latrines in attics. These accumulate large amounts of feces containing raccoon roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis) eggs, which can remain infectious for years. Professional decontamination with enzyme-based cleaners is required.

⚡ Electrical Wiring — Fire Hazard

Raccoons chew and pull at wiring when building nests. Exposed wiring is a serious fire hazard and may not be discovered until an inspection or, worse, a fire occurs. All accessible wiring must be inspected after a raccoon infestation.

Structural Damage

Raccoons enlarge entry points by pulling back fascia, soffits, and roof edge materials. Repeated entry and exit over weeks leaves structural damage that allows water intrusion.

What Does Attic Restoration Involve?

1Contaminated insulation removal (full attic)
2HEPA vacuuming of all surfaces
3Enzyme-based decontamination and disinfection
4Structural inspection for wiring and beam damage
5New insulation installation to code R-value
6Entry point sealing and exterior repairs
